What is Prakruthi?

In Ayurveda, the biological constitution or the genetic make up of an individual, which remains constant throughout one's life is called Prakruthi. The Prakruthi of an individual manifests as the physical attributes and physiological and psychological responses. "Pra" refers to before, beginning, commencement or source of origin, in different contexts. Similarly "kruthi" means creation or to do. Therefore, Prakruthi on the whole means 'the first formed nature' or 'the original form of the being'.For centuries, the universal laws have remained a mystery to human intellect. The exploration of the Universe by philosophers and scientists at different planes of knowledge continues. The constitution of the universe rules the formation, existence and destruction of all the objects in a space and time contineum of consciousness. Every individual is a unique entity with a constitution of his/her own. This is called Prakruthi. This Prakruthi or the biological judiciary controls the physical and mental faculties of an individual.

What is generally seen in nature is a predominance of a particular Prakruthi ( Vaatha Prakruthi, Pittha Prakruthi, Kapha prakruthi) or a combination of two predominant types (Vaatha-pittha Prakruthi, Vaatha-kapha prakruthi or Kapha-pittha Prakruthi). While individuals of one predominant Prakruthi are found to be more susceptible to diseases, each Prakruthi has its own adaptability to life conditions in the long run.
