Description: Leaves elliptic to oblong 9-15 x 4-9cm, coriaceous, base auriculate, apex acute, subsessile. Inflorescence and umbellate panicle, (sub) terminal, ca. 10 cm; bracts and bracteoles lanceolate, 1 cm; pedocle ca. 3 cm. Calyx-lobes ovate, valvate, 5 mm, puberulous without, ciliate, glandular. Corolla purple, 4 cm across; lobes ovate, spreading, valvate, 1.5 cm, thick-fleshy, acute. Pollinia pendulous ; pollinial bags oblong, flattened, 2 mm; caudicle indistinct; receptacle 0.7 mm. Corona single, staminal, laterally compressed, basally incurved, horny and 3 - fid at apex, 1.3 cm, pubescent at back. Ovaries 3 mm; styles 1 cm. Follicle oblong, inflated, 8 x 4cm; seeds oblong to ovate, plano-convex, 9 x 6 mm; coma long, silky. Reference: Matthew, K.M. 1983. The Flora of the Tamil Nadu Carnatic. Vol. 2 (3 parts). How to Grow: MODE OF PROPAGATION : 1.Seed Propagation: Seed Collection: Fully ripe fruits should be collected 2 days before they break open. Hairy growth from the seeds should be removed. Seeds should be collected in the month of August- October. Sowing Method: Seeds should be sown in polybags and covered with sand.
