Amruth HomeGarden draws strength from our age old healing traditions. Generations of our ancestors have spent their lifetime to study plants growing in their neighbourhood and to find out their healing properties for their day to day health care needs. We are now the custodians of the treasure house of this collective wisdom. Our people, across the country, now know medicinal uses of more than 7,500 plant species to prevent disease and to treat an array of ailments. We have to only recognise this and be a part of the immense process of transferring this knowledge trove to our future generations. It needs our continued linkage to the healing plants. What could be a better way to keep this tradition alive and benefit from it than by bringing these plants to the household and start a relationship with them!

PLANTS FOR AMRUTH HOMEGARDEN

Plant species for the Amruth HomeGarden programme should be native to the region. They need to be carefully selected keeping in view their use value, ornamental value, ease of growing and maintenance, ease of use, safety and efficacy. These should not require large space and yet may add their rejuvenating value, colour and flavour to the available nooks and corners of the house. Some of these plants may be familiar ornamentals that already grace many a home gardens. This programme only puts these plants into the context of primary healthcare.

AMRUTH HOMEGARDEN PROGRAMME
